Columbus Drive closing for 2 months in Aberdeen

N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) crews are closing a section of Columbus Drive in Moore County for nearly two months as part of the ongoing Sandhills area improvement projects.

Starting Oct. 5 at 8 p.m., Columbus Drive will be closed near Aberdeen Pines Way, between U.S. 15-501 and South Hill Road, for storm drainage work associated with road improvements along the U.S. 15-501 corridor. The road runs between the shopping centers housing TJ Maxx and Best Buy.

NCDOT says the road is scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m. on Nov. 30, weather permitting.

Motorists will be detoured via U.S. 15-501, Johnson Street and South Hill Road.

Crews will also conduct nightly intermittent single-lane closures in either direction of U.S. 15-501 from Turner Street to U.S. 1 for traffic shifts. The closures will be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through Nov. 30.

Additional closures and detours are expected as the project advances.
