County opens warming shelter ahead of expected winter weather

Moore County will be opening a public shelter at 8 p.m. Thursday, January 20 ahead of the expected winter storm. The location will be at the Moore County Sports Complex – Recreation Center 155 Hillcrest Park Lane in Carthage.

Forecasters are expecting Thursday’s rain to change to snow with the possibility of sleet and black ice which will continue into the weekend. 

There will be a required COVID pre-screening questionnaire for staying at the shelter. Alternate sheltering arrangements will be considered for individuals with a known COVID positive test result or symptomatic. A COVID rapid test could be required.

They encourage anyone who wishes to stay in the shelter to arrive early, efforts will be made to assist those in need of transportation as resources can safely accommodate.

Moore County Health Department COVID testing site for Friday, January 21 will be canceled.

Moore County Transportation Services will be closed for Friday, January 21.

Moore County Department of Aging services that will be impacted are no Home Delivered Meals, No In-Home Aid visits, No Diners Club for Friday, January 21.
