A death investigation is underway in Southern Pines after police found a body during a welfare check.
A deceased female was found by officers at a home in the 100 block of Sweetbay Court in the Arboretum community just after 3 p.m. on Friday, said Southern Pines Police Department in a press release. The neighborhood is located off Knoll Road.
The police department said it believes this was not a random act of violence, and there is no known threat to the community.
The cause of the death will not be released until an autopsy is conducted. The department did not release any other information as this is an ongoing investigation.
