Dog found hanging lifeless from hot car

While driving by apartments located on W. Michigan Avenue in Southern Pines on Thursday, a person saw what was believed to be a large dog hanging from a rope outside of a car window in the roundabout at apartment 714. Upon further inspection, the animal was found to be deceased.

Southern Pines Police arrived shortly after, and one person was taken into custody in connection with the matter.

According to jail records, the resident of the apartment, 20-year-old Triniti Graham, was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond and is facing a charge of cruelty to animals.

“The dog was left in the vehicle, and it managed to break out of the window. When it jumped out of the vehicle, it was hung by the leash,” said Southern Pines Deputy Police Chief Charles Campbell about the dog being left in the hot car with a window left partially opened with a daytime high of 95 degrees.

No other information was released at the scene.
