A man was ejected from his truck after a crash Friday near Carthage. The single-vehicle crash happened just before 5 p.m. in a curvy area of Union Church Road in front of Pressley Farm.
A Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east toward Vass when the driver lost control in a curve. The truck ran off the opposite side of the road and rolled at least twice before coming to a rest upright between two trees.
First responders initially thought there was no one from the crash at the scene, but after a quick search of the area, the driver was found to have been ejected and thrown over a thicket of small pine trees a few feet away.
He was still alive and alert enough to tell emergency personnel he was the only occupant.
He was transported to a landing zone set up at New Century Middle School and flown to a trauma center. His condition is unknown at this time.
Officials on the scene told Sandhills Sentinel that a witness said the driver was believed to have been wearing a seat belt.
N.C. Highway Patrol was on the scene investigating the crash.
Responding to the wreck were Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
