A two-vehicle collision on Saturday night in Cameron sent two trucks into a field and one driver to jail. The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. on N.C. 24-27 near its intersection with Grady Road.
A Ford truck of unconfirmed model was turning right onto N.C. 24-27 from Grady Road when a Ford Ranger, traveling east allegedly at a high rate of speed on N.C. 24-27, approached the intersection, according to officials on the scene. The Ford Ranger attempted to avoid the Ford truck by passing on the right shoulder, but the two vehicles collided, sending both into a field on the opposite side of the road, said officials.
The larger Ford truck came to a stop about halfway across the field, while the Ford Ranger, due to its speed, continued for approximately 100-200 yards before stopping near the other end of the field.
Neither driver was injured in the collision.
The male driver of the Ford Ranger was given a field sobriety test by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, which was on scene investigating. Authorities told Sandhills Sentinel that he was being arrested for alleged DWI along with several other charges.
One lane of N.C. 24-27 was shut down while crews worked the scene, and N.C. Highway Patrol investigated.
Responding units included Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
