The Sunrise Theater has partnered with National Theatre Live (NTL) for 10 years to bring the best of British theater to the Sunrise screen. With the Sunrise temporarily closed, both organizations have been challenged to find safe ways to keep audiences entertained.
The solution for theater fans is National Theatre at Home. Each week through April and May, NTL will be releasing one encore performance to the National Theatre Live YouTube channel. These titles will be free to stream and be available for one week only. The first four titles are One Man, Two Guvnors, Jane Eyre, Treasure Island, and Twelfth Night.
One Man, Two Guvnors: April 2-9. Featuring a Tony Award-winning performance from James Corden as Francis Henshall in this hilarious West End and Broadway hit.
Jane Eyre: April 9-16. This bold and innovative reimagining of Charlotte Brontë’s masterpiece uncovers one woman’s fight for freedom and fulfillment on her own terms.
Treasure Island: April 16-23. Robert Louis Stevenson’s story of murder, money and mutiny is brought to life in this thrilling stage adaptation.
Twelfth Night: April 23 – 30. Where music is the food of love, and nobody is quite what they seem, anything proves possible in Shakespeare’s classic comedy.
Each broadcast was filmed in front of a live theatre audience using state-of-the-art filming techniques, tailored to the play. From close-ups that capture every flicker of emotion, to sweeping wide shots of the stage, NTL ensures that audiences watching at the Sunrise, and now in their homes, always get the best seat in the house.
Updates and additions to the schedule will be available at SunriseTheater.com and the Sunrise Facebook page. Donations may be made to the Sunrise Theater via the website or by mail to Sunrise Preservation Group, 244 NW Broad Street, Southern Pines NC 28387.
