One person died and three others were injured as a result of a two vehicle accident outside of Carthage Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred on U.S. 15-501 around 11:00 am when a Scion ran off the road and lost control while over-correcting and was hit by a DPS vehicle.
The driver of the Scion, Michael Sean Murphy, 51, was killed, and three people were injured from the Chevrolet. The driver was airlifted to Chapel Hill while the two other people were transported by ambulance to Moore Regional Hospital.

Carthage Fire and Rescue, Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, Eastwood Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol were on scene assisting.
15-501 was closed until around 12:30 pm while emergency responders cleared the area.
