CCNC to host 2026 Carolinas Amateur, 2027 Southern Amateur Championship

Adding to its legacy as an advocate of amateur golf, The Country Club of North Carolina (CCNC) will host the 2026 Carolinas Amateur and the 2027 Southern Amateur Championship.

“Adding these two prestigious championships to our historic list of amateur golf competitions is truly an honor for CCNC,” said club president Charlie Rivers. “We are proud of our long-standing support of amateur golf that dates back to the 1965 North Carolina Amateur just two years after we opened. We are excited to bring two strong fields of elite amateur players to CCNC in the next several years.”

The Carolinas Amateur, conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association, has been contested four previous times at CCNC – 1969, 1984, 2004 and 2018. In 2026, the dates of the competition are July 9-12. Joshua Martin of Pinehurst was the champion in 2018, the last time the Carolinas Amateur was played at CCNC.

Prior to 2027, the Southern Amateur will be played at Idle Hour Country Club in Lexington, Kent. this July; at Blessings Golf Club in Johnson, Ark. in 2025; and Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga. in 2026.

Seven times previously, CCNC has hosted the Southern Amateur: 1971 (won by Ben Crenshaw); 1979 (won by Rafael Alarcon); 1985 (won by Len Mattiace); 1990 (won by Jason Widener); 1996 (won by Rob Manor); 2007 (won by Webb Simpson) and 2017 (won by Karl Vilips).

The Southern Amateur was first played in 1902 also includes Bob Jones, Justin Leonard, and Harris English among its list of champions. The 2027 championship will mark its 121st playing.

The Southern Amateur, conducted by the Southern Golf Association, is part of the Elite Amateur Golf Series (EAGS). The mission of the EAGS is to enhance amateur golf by aligning seven of the top competitive amateur championships and provide exceptional playing opportunities for the best amateur golfers.

CCNC is also continuing its long relationship with the USGA by hosting the 2030 U.S. Senior Amateur and the 2037 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
