Help shape the future of transportation in the Sandhills

The Sandhills Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is developing the 2055 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), a long-range plan that will help guide future transportation investments across Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Whispering Pines, Pinebluff, Taylortown, Foxfire, and surrounding areas of Moore County.

The plan evaluates future transportation needs and identifies proposed roadway, bicycle, pedestrian, transit, freight, rail, and aviation improvements intended to improve safety, mobility, connectivity, and access. Projects included in the MTP are eligible for future federal transportation funding, and the plan is scheduled for adoption in December 2026.

The public is invited to review proposed projects and provide feedback before the plan is finalized. Residents can provide feedback by:

– visiting www.sandhills2055mtp.com to explore project information, comment on an interactive map, and complete a brief survey

or

– attending an open house on August 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Village of Pinehurst Assembly Hall (395 Magnolia Road, Pinehurst), where they can learn more about the plan, ask questions, and share input.

Public feedback will help ensure the final plan reflects the transportation priorities and needs of the region.
