Aberdeen traffic stop leads to marijuana, cocaine arrest

A 30-year-old Bear Creek woman was arrested on a felony cocaine charge after laboratory testing confirmed a substance found during a September traffic stop was cocaine, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

Aberdeen officers stopped a vehicle for equipment violations Sept. 9. During the stop, officers noticed an “obvious odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle, police said.

Brittany Marshall, a passenger, provided officers with a plastic bag containing marijuana. After removing both occupants from the vehicle, officers searched it and found marijuana paraphernalia on the passenger-side floorboard.

Officers also found additional drug paraphernalia in Marshall’s purse, along with a dollar bill containing a white powdery substance. Marshall was issued citations for misdemeanor marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges while the powder was sent to the State Crime Lab for testing.

On Oct. 6, officers obtained additional information identifying the substance as cocaine and secured a warrant charging Marshall with felony possession of cocaine.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office located Marshall on Oct. 7 and took her before a Chatham County magistrate. She was held without bond due to conditions of her pretrial release.

All charges are allegations, and Marshall is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
