A 32-year-old Hamlet woman was arrested after an investigation into a stolen debit card that was used or targeted for use at multiple businesses, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.
Samantha Isaac is accused of taking a customer’s debit card while the victim was eating at Jersey Mike’s on Sept. 30. The victim reported the theft to police Oct. 9 and said she had canceled the card but later discovered it had been used at several businesses.
The victim provided documentation showing the card had been used, or attempts had been made to use it, eight times between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2, police said.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage from Jersey Mike’s and other businesses where the card was used. Investigators also gathered statements and used additional investigative methods to identify Isaac as the suspect.
Police obtained warrants charging Isaac with felony identity theft, felony larceny of a chose in action, attempted felony obtaining property by false pretenses, felony conspiracy, and felony possession of stolen property.
After initially being unable to locate Isaac, officers received assistance from the Carthage Police Department, which found her on Oct. 31. She was taken before a Moore County magistrate and received a $15,000 secured bond.
All charges are allegations, and Isaac is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
