Two arrested on drug charges after Aberdeen traffic stop

Two people were arrested on drug charges after an Aberdeen traffic stop involving a vehicle with an improperly displayed license plate, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

Officers reportedly stopped the vehicle on Oct. 27 after noticing its license plate was upside down. The vehicle was also associated with an individual known to have outstanding warrants, police said.

Officers identified the front-seat passenger as Eric Kimball, 31, of Vass, who had an outstanding larceny warrant. During a search following his arrest, officers found a white, crystal-like substance that Kimball reportedly identified as methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Police said the substance appeared consistent with those narcotics. Kimball was additionally charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

The driver, Madeline Lyman, 30, of Asheboro, told officers there was an unused needle near her seat. Officers found a needle containing a dark liquid that Lyman reportedly said contained methamphetamine and Cheerwine.

Lyman was charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Kimball and Lyman were taken before a Moore County magistrate and held without bond as a condition of pretrial release.

All charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
