Woman faces charges in alleged Pinehurst bank account fraud

A Connecticut woman is facing charges in North Carolina after allegedly using a fraudulent driver’s license to withdraw thousands of dollars from a Pinehurst resident’s bank account.

Kelsey Ross of Terryville, Connecticut, allegedly used a fraudulent North Carolina driver’s license containing a Pinehurst resident’s personal information to withdraw several thousand dollars from the victim’s account at a Truist Bank location in Pennsylvania on Oct. 24, 2025, according to the Pinehurst Police Department.

The department was notified of the incident three days later. Detectives launched an investigation and, working with law enforcement agencies across North Carolina, identified Ross as the suspect.

Pinehurst detectives obtained warrants charging Ross with one count of identity theft and one count of obtaining property by false pretenses.

On May 22, Ross was arrested by the East Lansing Police Department in Michigan on charges of uttering and publishing checks stemming from an unrelated incident.

Ross is expected to be extradited to North Carolina, where she will face the charges filed by Pinehurst police and two other North Carolina jurisdictions. Upon her return, she is expected to be held at the Moore County Detention Center.

“Financial crime investigations can be complex, often crossing multiple jurisdictions and requiring significant time and persistence,” Pinehurst Police Chief Glen Webb said. He praised detectives for their commitment to victims and thanked law enforcement partners for helping advance the investigation.

Police encourage residents to monitor their financial accounts regularly and promptly report suspicious transactions to their financial institutions and local law enforcement.

All charges are allegations, and Ross is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
