Garland Wayne Watson, age 93, of Vass, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.
A visitation and viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Full Military Honors.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with over 20 years and served one tour in Vietnam. He loved meeting new people and never met a stranger, always joking around with them. He especially enjoyed tinkering on cars. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Garland was born in Mississippi on June 7, 1933, to the late Samuel Green Watson and Ara Panell Watson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Watson; sister, Elsie Pearl; and brother, Rufus Watson.
In addition to his wife, Jamie Watson, he is survived by his children, Brenda Kay of Vass, Patricia Ridgon of Arkansas, Samuel Watson of Carthage, Allen Watson of Florida, Barbara Poppa of West End; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Thurman Watson of Mississippi.
