The Southern Pines Public Library is temporarily closed until further notice due to a water leak within the building. At this time, the Town anticipates a short-term closure and expects to provide an updated reopening timeline, along with information about programs scheduled for the week of August 10, early next week.
Facilities staff responded to the issue on Saturday afternoon, working to mitigate the water intrusion and assess the affected infrastructure. Library staff worked concurrently to relocate and protect technology, books, materials, and other Library assets.
“Our Facilities and Library teams responded quickly and worked together to protect both the building and the resources our community relies on,” said Assistant Town Manager Jessica Roth in a press release. “We appreciate their efforts and the community’s patience while we determine what repairs are needed. We hope this will be a short-term disruption and will share additional information as soon as we have it.”
During the closure, Library patrons continue to have access to a variety of services 24/7.
*The SPARK 24/7 Library Kiosk, located in front of Fire Station 82 at 7850 NC-22, allows patrons to borrow, return, and renew materials anytime. The kiosk is stocked with more than 200 items, including popular fiction and nonfiction, large-print books, audiobooks, DVDs, and children’s books.
*Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and more through the Libby app or at sopinesnc.info/e-catalog.
*Visit sopinesnc.info/SPPLonline for more than 100 online databases and digital resources.
*Stream thousands of movies, documentaries, educational videos, children’s programs, music performances, and more through Kanopy, Films on Demand, and Just for Kids. Visit sopinesnc.info/SPPLstream to access the streaming library.
The library’s parking lot drop box remains available for patrons to return materials during the closure. The Town will provide additional information as it becomes available.
