The second major collision on U.S. 1 within the span of an hour occurred at the intersection with Magnolia Drive at about 1:50 p.m. Friday.
Just one hour after a collision caused a vehicle to roll in Southern Pines, first responders were alerted to a four-car pileup less than a mile down the road in Aberdeen.
Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that four vehicles were approaching the traffic light when the driver of a Dodge Challenger was unable to stop in time and rear-ended a Hyundai Tucson, setting off a chain reaction. The Tucson then rear-ended a Mazda, which struck a Honda Accord stopped at the light.
No one was injured in the collision.
The first three vehicles were able to be driven into a nearby parking lot, but the Challenger had to be pushed out of the roadway by first responders.
The Aberdeen Police Department and the Aberdeen Fire Department responded to the scene.
