A Southern Pines collision left one driver trapped in their vehicle Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews were dispatched to a rollover at the intersection of Pinehurst Avenue and U.S. 1 in Southern Pines around 12:50 p.m. and arrived to find a Toyota on its side.
Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the crash occurred when a Toyota allegedly ran the red light coming from Pinehurst Avenue and collided with a Kia that was headed northbound on U.S. 1.
As a result of the collision, the front end of the Kia was damaged and the airbags were deployed. The Toyota overturned and came to rest on the driver’s side of the car.
There were no life-threatening injuries to anyone involved, but the driver of the Toyota had to be extricated from the vehicle by first responders.
Traffic in the northbound lane of U.S. 1 was diverted through The Plaza at Poplar while emergency crews cleared the scene.
The Southern Pines Fire Department, Southern Pines Police Department, and Moore County EMS responded to the incident.
