A 27-year-old man died in a single car accident Saturday morning in Southern Pines. The accident occurred on East Connecticut Avenue near the intersection of Ox Ridge Lane around 1:30 am.

Another car traveling down Connecticut came upon the wreck and called 911.  The Ford Focus had been traveling towards Southern Pines on Connecticut Avenue when the car ran off the right-hand side of the road and slammed into several trees.

The driver was declared dead at the scene.  Due to the extensive damage to the car, emergency crews had to use hydraulic tools to remove the roof of the car and the passenger door in order gain access to the victim. 

After notifying the next of kin, authorities released the man’s name as Aaron Stephen Blue, from Pembroke.

Connecticut Avenue was completely shut down while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Responding the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, NC Medical Examiner’s Office, NC Highway Patrol, and C&M Towing.
