Four individuals were transported to the hospital due to a wreck on Monday in Aberdeen. Around 8:20 p.m., first responders received a call alerting them to a two-vehicle crash in front of Food Lion on U.S. 1.
The wreck occurred when a Ford Fusion and Chrysler Town & Country minivan collided where the Food Lion and Harris Teeter plazas intersect with U.S. 1, which lacks a stoplight.
Three occupants of the Chrysler — the driver and two minors — and the driver of the Ford required transport by EMS to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash left both vehicles with substantial damage. The Ford suffered heavy front-end damage, while the Chrysler bore the brunt of the impact on the passenger side, with shattered windows, deployed air bags, and extreme damage to the rear passenger door.
According to authorities on the scene, the cause of the crash and additional details are still under investigation at this time.
As first responders worked to clean up shattered glass, debris, and assorted vehicle parts, Rockwell Towing arrived to remove both vehicles from the highway. U.S. 1 was temporarily brought down to two lanes, one northbound and one southbound, while the scene was cleared and investigated.
