A three-vehicle crash in Pinehurst closed Highway 211 for about an hour and sent two people to the hospital Friday.
Emergency crews were called to Highway 211 near Juniper Lake Road around 8:45 a.m.
Troopers tell Sandhills Sentinel that a disabled car was blocking a southbound lane of traffic. A second vehicle stopped to offer help to the driver of the disabled car. A male driver of a third vehicle did not see the other vehicles and slammed into the back of the second car. The impact of the collision caused the disabled vehicle to roll, knocking down its driver who was standing outside of it.

The driver of the second vehicle was airlifted from the scene and taken to a trauma center. Highway 211 was shut down so that a landing zone could be set up in the roadway at the scene of the crash. Authorities did not give his condition but said he was alert when he was airlifted. An ambulance transported the female driver of the disabled vehicle to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
The driver of the third vehicle was checked out at the scene and was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.
Responding to the scene were Pinehurst Fire Department, Pinehurst Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Moore County EMS, UNC Air Care, and Rockwell Towing.
