A man was airlifted to a trauma center on Wednesday night after suffering a gunshot wound in Southern Pines. The shooting took place at a residence in the 400 block of West Connecticut Avenue around 9 p.m.
Once the residence was secured by law enforcement, EMS proceeded to the scene and found a male victim in his 40s who had sustained a gunshot wound in his left leg. Due to the severity of the injury, a helicopter was called for emergency transport.

The victim was transported in an ambulance to the emergency landing zone that had been established at Memorial Park on Morganton Road. The victim was then airlifted to an area trauma center for further treatment. His condition is currently unknown at this time. Police did not release the man’s identity.

The residence on Connecticut Avenue was secured by the police, and crime scene tape could be seen around the property. Detectives were on the scene investigating the crime and speaking with potential witnesses.
“The investigation has determined this incident is not a random act of violence, and the shooting is a domestic related incident, where the male victim and male suspect are related,” said Southern Pines Police Deputy Chief Charles Campbell in a Thursday press release. “Following the on-scene investigation, Investigators from the Southern Pines Police Department with the assistance of deputies from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a search warrant at an address in Cameron, NC to search for the suspect and weapon used in this crime.”

Officials arrested Keith Parker and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and additional charges are forthcoming.
“A stolen .45 caliber handgun was recovered during the arrest and is believed to be the weapon used in the assault,” said Campbell.
