NC announces 105 new jobs as manufacturer selects Robeson County

The public hearing on a conditional zoning change for a new mixed-use development in Aberdeen will continue. If approved, the alteration would rezone three parcels, estimated to be 214.9 acres, from Residential to Planned Development (PD).

To be held before the Aberdeen Town Board, the public hearing is set for Tuesday, May 26 at 6 p.m. A decision to extend the hearing was made at the board’s Monday, April 27 meeting, which was held remotely.

The applicant seeking the rezoning wants to develop 38,000 square feet of office and retail, and build approximately 515 homes. The development would be located between NC-5 and Roseland Road, surrounding the new Aberdeen Elementary, slated to have capacity for 800 students. The school, for pupils in kindergarten through fifth grade, replaces Aberdeen Primary and the former Aberdeen Elementary.

If all goes according to schedule, the new school will open in August of this year. The facility’s designed to provide opportunities for self-guided learning and team-teaching strategies.
