Hurricane Florence swirled at a near-standstill over the Carolinas, dumping non-stop rain over local areas leaving serious damage and flooding to the community.
Local volunteers gathered at a staging area in the Riverview area of Vass over the weekend to help with the clean-up. Community members brought meals and helped repair homes. More help is needed to assist in the recovery efforts.
There are many ways for those who would like to help.
Jon Rachels has set up a fundraiser to help the 30 Vass families that have experienced flooding in their homes. “We want to start a fund to give these folks some relief,” said Rachels in a written statement on the fundraiser page. “The money raised here will help pay for construction materials and labor. They need every bit of help that we can give. Please help us help our neighbors. Even if it’s just a five dollar donation. They need help right now.”
Currently, they are at $695 of their $10,000 goal. To donate, please click here.
The community may also donate household items, clothes, furniture, nonperishable foods for Moore County storm victims at the Sandhills Coalition for Human Care located at 1500 W. Indiana Ave. in Southern Pines. To make a monetary donation, please click here. For more information, please call Sandhills Coalition for Human Care at 910-693-1600.
