Homeowners safe after house fire on Halloween

The residents of a house located in the 400 block of Lakeside Drive near Foxfire are safe after a fire broke out in their home on Halloween night.

A call came into 9-1-1 just after 8 p.m. with the resident saying flames were coming out from the side of their fireplace. Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke in the home. The fireplace was extinguished quickly, but heavy smoke was still coming from the attic.

Firefighters located additional small flames in the attic near the chimney and were able to put them out after gaining access by cutting holes in the roof. 

The house sustained heavy smoke and water damage. Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire. Fire units from all over the county responded to the scene.
