House saved from total loss after suspicious fire

A fire is now under investigation after a Carthage home caught on fire Sunday just after 7 p.m.

Multiple units were dispatched to the home on Reardon Lane, off Walter Road, for a fire beside a residence with the structure becoming involved.

First units on the scene reported a working fire at the rear of the home and immediately began an attack on it. The fire was quickly knocked down, but there was extensive damage to the back porch and kitchen.

No one was inside at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported.

After ejecting smoke and checking for hot spots, an investigation began, and a K-9 was brought in.

Moore County Fire Marshal was on scene and is investigating the fire.

Central Electric removed power from the home.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Eastwood Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and Moore County Public Safety.
