Local nurse wins national award

FirstHealth announced that Moore Regional Hospital nurse Jennifer Hernandez has received the DAISY Award, a national honor celebrating nurses who go above and beyond to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.

Hernandez, who cares for patients on 1 Medical at MRH, was nominated by a family member of a patient who came to the hospital.

“I stayed with my mom throughout the day and night, and I witnessed firsthand Jennifer’s calm, helpful and supportive approach,” the family member wrote. “She was consistently thorough in explaining each step of the care process and made sure we understood what was happening. Her professionalism was matched by a genuine kindness and compassion that made a difficult time more manageable.”

The family member said Hernandez kept her mother’s best interests in mind.

“Jennifer’s dedication to her patients is evident, and she was always willing to answer questions or find us an answer,” they wrote. “I’m so grateful she went above and beyond. She is a remarkable nurse.”

Susan Taylor, R.N., Nurse Manager on 1 Medical, said Hernandez always advocates for each patient.

“Jennifer strives to deliver exceptional patient care and always remains professional. She goes above and beyond to make patients and families feel supported, and it is evident in the care she delivers that she genuinely cares for people. Jennifer is a true blessing to FirstHealth,” Taylor said.

Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.
