The Sandhills 10 has joined a national program called Flashback Cinema, consisting of weekly showings of classic movies. Digitally restored prints of timeless Hollywood favorites are shown each week on Sundays and Wednesdays, with some films shown on additional days.
Upcoming Flashback Cinema presentations include Academy Award winners Casablanca, Jurassic Park, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Spider-Man 2, and La La Land.
The move comes in response to patrons’ requests to see classic movies on the big screen.
“Many of our customers have expressed a desire for this type of program,” says Jeremy Welman of Carolina Cinemas. “They want to see movies they’ve fallen in love with in the past in the same environment in which they enjoy today’s Hollywood blockbusters. Like all movies, classic films are best enjoyed on the giant screen with the state-of-the-art sound and projection that can only be experienced in a theatrical setting.”
Each film is preceded by an on-screen introduction from Flashback Cinema host John Hersker, a film industry veteran and former Paramount Pictures executive with a lifelong love of movies.
“A big part of the appeal of Flashback Cinema is for families,” Hersker says. “Parents who remember seeing a great film like Jurassic Park for the first time in a theatre can give their children the same experience. There’s nothing like seeing your kids jump out of their seats when the T. rex appears on the big screen, just like you remember doing yourself!”
