Man airlifted after ATV accident in Vass

A man was airlifted Wednesday after crashing his ATV in Vass. The crash happened on Johnson Street at the intersection with Brewer Street around 8 p.m.

The man was riding alone on his ATV to the west end of Johnson Street. He was then riding east off the road toward home when he crashed into a fire hydrant head-on.

He was thrown off the ATV but was able to get back on and ride across the street to his house. After arriving home, he slumped over the handlebars and lost consciousness briefly until his family woke him up.

Due to the unconscious episode he sustained, he was airlifted from a landing zone at the ballpark in Vass and flown to a trauma center.

The force of the impact on the hydrant caused the water main to break, and water service in the area was interrupted for several hours while crews made repairs.
