Man arrested weapon drug

A Southern Pines man is behind bars facing weapon and drug charges after being arrested Tuesday, according to a statement by Southern Pines Police Department.

Victor Wendell Woodard, 40, was arrested when officers became aware the suspect, who had outstanding felony arrest warrants, was at the Brookside Apartments, located on Shaw Avenue.

“Once officers knocked on the door, Victor Wendell Woodard opened the rear door to the apartment and was found to be holding a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his right hand,” said the department. “Victor Wendell Woodard has a prior felony conviction and is prohibited by law from possessing a firearm. A subsequent search located marijuana and drug paraphernalia.”

Without incident, the suspect was charged with possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony larceny, interfering with an electronic monitoring device and violation of parole.

Woodard was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond, has a July 23 court date, and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
