Moore County limits waste collection

In light of the challenges facing the department from COVID-19 pandemic, Moore County must prioritize its waste collection practices. On March 26, Moore County’s seven convenience sites will begin to only collect limited types of waste. This waste will include regular household trash, comingled recycling, glass recycling, and cooking oil.

All other convenience sites will temporarily suspend collection of metal, household hazardous waste (like paint, fertilizers, etc.), small construction and debris material (including furniture), and electronics. The roll off containers used for these suspended services will be utilized for household waste overflow.

While metal (and white goods), electronics and furniture will not be collected at the convenience centers, these materials will continue to be collected at the Moore County Landfill at 456 Turning Leaf Way along with regular construction material, yard waste, and scrap tires. Moore County encourages but does not require residents to hold on to electronics, metal, furniture and similar materials until normal operations resume.

At this time, they do not anticipate any service disruptions from regular landfill services, but additional restrictions could negatively impact these measures.

“As we address evolving challenges facing our community in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to ensure that citizens have direct access to the most essential elements of Moore County’s solid waste program,” said David Lambert, Solid Waste Manager. “At the same time, we must ensure that we have the operational capacity to meet Moore County’s increasing demand on solid waste services and that we are able to ensure that all environmental protection requirements are adhered to.”

These limited collection measures will be in place until Monday, April 6.
