Moore weekly sports wrap-up

It was a bitter-sweet week in high school sports around Moore County. Six teams in three different sports at all three high schools chased their dreams of a state title with only two teams from one school remaining in the hunt for a shot at a state championship. 

Union Pines Men’s Soccer opened its state playoff run at Jacksonville High School. The Vikings were defeated 6-0 ending their season. 

Union Pines Girl’s Tennis was defeated in the third round on Monday 6-0. 

Pinecrest had two programs in the tournament. Patriot Men’s Soccer Team played their first-round game on Monday defeating Enloe 4-1. The Patriots ended their season Thursday night with 2-0 loss at Holly Springs. 

Patriot football opened their state tournament in round one Friday night at home against Rolesville. The Patriots ended their season with a 56-32 loss. 

North Moore Men’s Soccer played their first-round Monday defeating Chatham Charter 7-0. They played Friday defeating Neuse Charter 5-1. The Mustangs advance to the third round Monday against River Mill. 

North Moore football had a first-round bye week Friday and will play in the second round Friday night at home against Gates County. 

Sandhills Community College opened its basketball season. The Flyers are chasing their fourth straight season to a national tournament. 

Wednesday, Flyers defeated Lenoir CC 95-84.

Friday, Anne Arundel CC defeated the Flyers 82-75.

Saturday, Flyers defeated S4G 96-72.

North Moore soccer: Third round vs River Mill at 6 p.m. 

North Moore football: second round vs Gates County at 7 p.m. 

O’Neal Men’s Varsity Basketball:

vs Cary Christian at Wednesday at 7 p.m. 

vs Ravenscroft Friday at 7 p.m. 

O’Neal Women’s Varsity Basketball:

vs Ravenscroft Friday at 5:30 p.m. 

Sandhills Community College Basketball:

Monday vs Hanna Bible College 7 p.m. 

Wednesday at Guilford Tech CC 7 p.m.

Saturday vs Wake Tech CC 3 p.m.
