Mother suspected of DWI after crashing with child in car

A mother is suspected of driving while intoxicated after crashing her SUV in Eagle Springs with her child in the vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a Ford Edge northbound on Mt. Carmel Road, near Bethlehem Church Road, when she crossed the centerline, went off the left shoulder into a ditch, hit several trees and flipped the vehicle.

Moore County EMS personnel examined both the child and the mother at the scene, who were the only occupants in the SUV. The mother was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional with minor injuries. The child was determined to only have minor injuries and stayed at the scene with the father.

Troopers say the driver had a blood-alcohol level well above the N.C. legal limit of .08 and that the mother will be facing multiple charges.

Burgess Towing removed the SUV from the scene.

Responding to the scene were Eagle Springs Fire and Rescue, Seven Lakes Fire and Rescue, Robbins Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and Burgess Towing.
