The sound of sirens could be heard throughout most of the county on Friday morning. A fire broke out inside a workshop beside a home in the 2700 block of N.C. 73 between Beulah Hill Church Road and McKenzies Mill Road in West End.
The first unit arrived on the scene around 1 a.m. and reported a large shop fully engulfed in flames. Due to the shop’s location and the distance off the road, a county tanker strike team was dispatched to shuttle water utilizing drop tanks at the entrance to the home’s driveway.Several hundred feet of large diameter hose was laid down the long driveway to reach a fire engine setup supplying water to crews battling the blaze.
A 20’x 20’ workshop was a total loss, and some extension of the fire reached a garage next to it, but it was not completely destroyed. The heat from the fire melted some of the vinyl siding off the house, but there was no other damage to the home.
Sandhills Sentinel spoke to authorities at the scene, who said the cause of the fire is still under investigation but does not appear suspicious. Moore County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
There were no injuries reported.
