Did you miss the first two concerts of the Arts Council of Moore County’s Classical Concert Series? If so, then you missed two great musical experiences by Grammy-winners Lucas Meachem and Chanticleer. But, don’t fret. There are still two more musical experiences on schedule.

The next concert will feature the award-winning Escher String Quartet on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 8 p.m. at the Sunrise Theater in Southern Pines.

The Escher String Quartet is acclaimed for its profound musical insight and rare tonal beauty. The group has performed at the BBC Proms at Cadogan Hall and is a regular guest at Wigmore Hall.

In New York, the ensemble serves as Season Artists of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, where last season it was one of five quartets chosen to collaborate in a complete presentation of Beethoven’s string quartets.

The artist for the final CCS concert this season will be Van Cliburn-winning pianist Jon Nakamatsu on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 8 p.m. at the Sunrise Theater in Southern Pines.

Nakamatsu continues to draw unanimous praise as a true aristocrat of the keyboard, whose playing combines elegance, clarity and electrifying power.

A native of California, Nakamatsu came to international attention in 1997 when he was named Gold Medalist of the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, the only American to have achieved this distinction since 1981. His playing has been described as combining elegance, clarity and electrifying power. Having performed all over the world, he has also collaborated with such conductors as James Conlon, Marek Janowski, Raymond Leppard, and Stanislaw Skrowaczewsk.

Tickets for each concert are $35 ($30 for Arts Council members), and may be purchased at the Arts Council offices (Campbell House, 482 E. Connecticut Ave., So. Pines) or by calling 910-692-2787.

Before each concert, sign up for a special dinner at Wolcott’s Restaurant in Southern Pines. Located just three blocks from the Sunrise Theater, Wolcott’s will serve a delicious, 3-course meal for an all-inclusive price of $37 per person.

Reservations for the February 26th concert are required by February 22 and can only be made by calling the Arts Council at 910-692-2787. Space is very limited, so call soon to complete your concert evening.
