New family resource center coming to Carthage

A new family resource center is coming to Carthage. The new center will serve all Moore County families.

The center’s grand opening will occur on Oct. 24. On that day, Partners for Children & Families will launch the Essentials Care Pantry, providing free diapers, wipes and cycle care supplies.

Visitors to the center will also have access to the Learning Through Play Lending Library. Lessons in Positive Parenting will be available free of charge. Free car seats, including installation, will be available for low-income families. Counselors at the center will help families connect with other services and assistance available in Moore County.

“We are thrilled to be launching this new venture, providing essential free resources to families with children who need a little extra help,” said Danielle Rose, the Partnership’s program manager. Diapers in particular are so expensive, but our new center will provide them for free.”

Stuart Mills, the Partnership’s executive director, reported that “None of this would be possible without a new grant from the Positive Childhood Alliance North Carolina (PCANC) (www.positivechildhoodalliancenc.org) in collaboration with the NC Division of Social Services. We are one of 38 centers across the state who were accepted into this new capacity building program.”

According to Andrea Clark, prevention networks manager at PCANC, “By investing in these organizations, we are helping to build a stronger, more resilient prevention ecosystem of family support services across the state.”

In addition to funding, PCANC will provide the Partnership in Moore County with professional development opportunities aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the funded project.

The Partnership is a private charity promoting early childhood development in Moore County. The Partnership is Moore County’s Smart Start agency.

Earlier this year, Partners for Children & Families was selected as one of the three counties to lead North Carolina’s new Tri-Share Child Care pilot program in Moore County and seven other counties: Chatham, Cumberland, Hoke, Montgomery, Richmond, Scotland and Union.

Other programs sponsored by Partners include the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Raising a Reader, GMR Summer Reading Stations, New Books – Good Looks Literacy Initiative, NC PreK at the Moore County Schools, and the Positive Parenting Program. Every month, Partners subsidizes more than 10,000 healthy meals and snacks for low-income children in child care homes in Moore County and five adjacent counties.
