A No Kings Rally was held Saturday afternoon at the Downtown Park in Southern Pines. The rally was held by Indivisible Moore County, a grassroots organization “advocating for political, education, social and economic rights.”
Indivisible Moore County said, “The rally is part of a nationwide call to action for individuals to protest and send a message against government actions that are a threat to democracy.”
According to the organization, “It objects to the Trump agenda that cuts funding for essential programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, education, veterans’ assistance and other vital services while at the same time providing massive tax cuts to the wealthiest few.”
The rally was scheduled on the same day as President Trump’s multi-million-dollar military parade in Washington, D.C., as part of the protest message.
There were several speakers and a large crowd at the Southern Pines rally.
More than 1,000 rallies took place across the United States.
