Dr. John D. (Dave) Davies age 93 formerly of Seven Lakes, and currently of Pinehurst, NC died on January 31, 2018.

A funeral service will be held at West End United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 3rd at 11:00 am with Pastor Jane Leechford officiating. Internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church at 10:00 am Saturday, starting one hour before the service.

Dr. Davies was born in Ft. Wayne Indiana July 11, 1924, the son of the late John G. Davies and Ruth Wolfe Davies. His early public school education was completed at ten different cities throughout the United States; necessitated by his father frequent business transfers required by General Motors Corporation. 

Higher education was completed at UNIV. of Buffalo, Penn State University, Auburn University, University of Nebraska, the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. Doctor Davies served in WWII overseas in the Pacific Theater at the close of hostilities in both the Philippine Islands and Okinawa; as an officer in the medical administrative corps, and in the surgeon’s office of the engineering headquarters. After returning to the US and completing dental school he established a solo dental practice and later a group dental practice in Newburgh, New York.

For approximately forty years his interest in dental affairs, both at the state and national level lead to a number of public service positions – President of 9th District Dental Society of the state of New York, member and delegate to the National American Dental Association, member of the New York State Dental Examining Board, member of the North Eastern Examining Board, and a member of the New York Office of Professional Discipline. He also served on the Board of Governors of the Dental Society of New York State. He was awarded membership in the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists.

Over the years he retained an avid interest in class B volleyball, golf, tennis, paddle ball, and bowling. Civic affairs included active participation in the Red Cross, the YMCA, the Salvation Army, the Kiwanis Service Club (55-year member), and various positions at three Methodist churches. He was an avid fisherman and returned to Grindstone and Canada almost every September for over fifty years on various Rideau Lakes. For over a twenty-year period he was very active in the National Association of Mental Illness, Moore County (NAMI, MC) serving locally as liaison to First Health Support Groups: also serving on state-level NAMI Board as vice president. He instituted supplying of hundreds of male and female toiletry kits at Christmas to the various state mental hospitals and other mental facilitates for the many patients who sadly received no Christmas presents and in many instances, saw no visitors.  The kits were subsidized for many years by Moore County NAMI affiliate. He personally secured over three thousand pairs of jeans (Gratis) from Wrangler; and presented them to various hospitals and other mental entities throughout the state over a two-year period.

Surviving at home is his loving wife of 65 years Roxana S. Davies; three daughters and their husbands – Diane Rectenwald (Don) of Pittsburgh, PA, Debby French (Joel) of Wilmington, NC, Amy Doolittle (Bill) of East Stroudsburg, PA. Grandchildren – Lindsay Schmitz, Sandra Rectenwald, Claire Morinello, Benjamin Doolittle and Grace Doolittle. Great grandchildren – Brenna, Gavin, Colin, and Maura Schmitz, and Nolan Rectenwald.
