George Gordon Williams, age 92, died peacefully at home in Pinehurst, NC on December 21, 2018. He was a devoted husband to Claire Gurewich Williams for 62 years. Together, they raised their children in Tunkhannock, PA before relocating to Manheim, PA in 1976 and to Pinehurst in 2017.
Gordon is survived by his wife Claire, daughter Susan Bierer wife of Donald in Pinehurst, NC, son Ronald Williams husband of Roberta in Lansdale, PA, and granddaughters Sarah Williams of Wilmington, DE and Laura Williams Orr of Lansdale, PA. His brother Wilmer and stepsister Carrie preceded him in death.
Born in Dimock, PA, Gordon was son of the late Wilmer Legrand and Mildred Baxter Williams. He graduated Dimock Vocational High School before serving in the Army during the Korean War. Gordon managed the Tunkhannock Lumber Co. for 14 years and was a sales representative for AC Dutton Corp. of Poughkeepsie, NY for 16 years. He was also a sales representative at Georgia Pacific for 10 years and worked at the Manheim Auto Auction in retirement. Gordon was a member of Masonic Lodge #248 and past president of Kiwanis in Tunkhannock. He was a long-time member of St. Richard Church in Manheim.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pinehurst, NC on January 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private at Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
