George Rounsavell Tovey, age 89, of Southern Pines, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Penick Village in Southern Pines, NC with his children by his side. Mr. Tovey was born February 18, 1929 in Bedford, Indiana.

Mr. Tovey graduated in 1951 from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN where he met his late wife of 59 years, Margery Guston. He worked as a chemical engineer for Cities Service Oil Company for 37 years in Indiana, New Jersey and Oklahoma. George and Marge retired to the Whispering Pines area in 1991. 

From 1966 to 1974 Mr. Tovey and his family hiked and camped in New Hampshire where they climbed all forty-six 4000 foot peaks in the White Mountain region. He also enjoyed golf, travelling and spending time with family and friends. 

Mr. Tovey is survived by one son, David George Tovey and wife Elaine McCool of Rogers, AR; two daughters, Karen Tovey and husband Edward Weiss of Fairfax, VA; and Nancy Tovey and husband Gregg Reynolds of Williston, VT; six grandchildren, Joshua and Benjamin Weiss, Julia and Evan Tovey, Alisia and Dan Pascoe. 

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at Penick Village where Mr. Tovey lived for the past 6 years.

A gathering of family, friends and Penick staff will be held on Monday, January 7 from 2 – 4 pm in the formal dining room at the Village House of Penick Village to remember George.
