Obituary for Joan Marshall of Pinehurst

Joan (Disler) Marshall, 90, of Pinehurst, passed peacefully, Oct. 13, 2023 at St. Joseph of the Pines, NC.

Born in Morrisville, PA, June 5, 1933, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Anna C. (Walter) Disler.  She was the oldest of three sisters with Claire and Vera preceding her in death.  She grew up in Hightstown, NJ and married her husband, Donald H. Marshall, Sr., on December 27, 1953.  They are now reunited in Heaven.

She is forever remembered by her sons, Hank, Bill and Mike, her daughters – in – law, Ann, Mariann and Lisa, her grandchildren, Brian, Bradley, Craig, Scott, Kara and Sarah.

She travelled the world with her family and taught at Colegio Internacional de Caracas.  She coached and cheered on her sons’ sports teams.  She loved the beach, was a pet lover, and enjoyed a good game of tennis.  She was a perpetually loyal but frustrated Cleveland Browns fan, played a mean hand of bridge, was an avid canasta player and a longtime Newcomers member.  Her hobbies included reading, cooking and cross stitching. Over the course of her life, she took great joy in staying in touch with friends and family through hand written Thank You’s, notes and letters.

She was a volunteer at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in the emergency room for 18 years and she and her husband Don enjoyed volunteering as course officials at numerous local golf tournaments.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, November 10th, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua, corner of E. Vermont ave. and Ashe st. in Southern Pines.  The family requests that instead of flowers, anyone wishing to remember Joan may do so by sending donations to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation, 105 Applecross Rd. Pinehurst, NC 28374.
