Joyce L. Holland, 87, of Southern Pines, passed peacefully at the FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 9th.
Born March 30th, 1936 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Willis Seabury Holland, Sr. and Kate Rowe Lowry. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Willis Seabury Holland, Jr. and step – father Dr. Charles W. Lowry, Jr. She is survived by cousins Nancy Robbins, Dr. Kimberly Robbins and Sara Robbins – Hall.
She was a proud alumnus of UNC – Chapel Hill and enjoyed following UNC Sports.
Joyce spent her career in education working as a teacher and guidance counselor for a majority of those years at Kaiser Slautern High School in Kaiser Slautern, Germany.
Joyce was an avid traveler, taking advantage of the over three decades of living abroad. Joyce retired to Pinehurst and devoted much of her time to charitable organizations that she held dear. She also enjoyed many years visiting the Outer Banks at her sea – side beach cottage. She was an animal lover, never being without a pet in her life. She leaves behind her beloved lhasa apso Samantha.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
