Leon Calvin Needham, 70, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at FirstHealth Hospice House, Pinehurst, NC, surrounded by his family.
Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Flint Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Reverend William Hancock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery
Leon was a native of Moore County. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves, Airborne Division. He loved God’s creation and was a farmer all his life. He was a beloved son, husband, father and grandfather. Time spent with his family was most important to him. He served Pineywood Baptist Church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Leon never met a stranger and shared a warm smile with everyone. He was a son of the late James “Jim” Calvin and Grace Williamson Needham and was preceded in death by son in law: David Swain; brother in law: Bobby Hooker.
Leon is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gearlene Hussey Needham; son David Needham (Kristy), of Carthage; daughter: Sheila Swain, of Carthage; grandchildren: Houston Swain (Michelle), Kandace Needham, Kayla Needham, Seth Swain, Klaire Needham; great Grandchildren: Tucker and Teagan Swain; sisters: Shirley Hooker, Maxine Needham, Nancy Cummings (Bud), Virginia Harris(Steve); brothers: James Needham (Marie), Jerry Needham (Wanda), as well as many nieces and nephews, that he loved.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 14, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home and other times at the home.
