Lois Elizabeth Austen – Schlier, 67, of Pinehurst, passed away at the FirstHealth Hospice House on Wednesday, Aug. 15th.
Born in New York City, August 1st, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Sam Amico and Mary Alice Way Austen. Lois attended Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, N.Y. where she earned her Bachelors’ Degree. She went on to earn her Masters’ Degree from Columbia University in Manhattan. Lois worked as a teacher in Norwood, New Jersey and as a computer systems analyst for Advanced Technologies Inc. in Vienna, Virginia.
She most enjoyed traveling the world for both business and pleasure, cooking for family and friends and nurturing her two Bichon Frise dogs – Spike and Casey.
Lois is survived by Frank, her loving husband of thirty-seven years, her brothers: Kenneth and Robert Austen, and sisters: Alice Carpenter and Margaret Carroll. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and one grand – niece; Hazel Jane Austen, who travelled from Clifton Park N.Y. in July, when she was six weeks old, to meet her great aunt Lois in Pinehurst.
In lieu of flowers, Lois recommended that family and friends use the money to take their spouse, significant other or friends to dinner and pause a minute at that dinner to reflect on how much Lois enjoyed knowing them over the years.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her both here in Pinehurst where she and Frank have lived since 2006 and in the many places she has touched around the world.
Services are entrusted to Boles funeral Home of Pinehurst.
