Obituary Michael Jack Childress Cameron

Michael Jack Childress, age 70, of Cameron, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Wayside Evangelical Presbyterian Church Cemetery in  Sanford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1 until 2.

Mike was born in Lee County on February 15, 1950 to Jack Dempsey Childress and Ruby Kennedy Childress. He was always the first to lend a friendly smile and a helping hand to anyone and everyone he encountered in life. An avid carpenter, mechanic, welder; “a true jack of many trades, a master of all,” Mike took great pride in all accomplishments, including his career as a milkman; a forty year service he never took lightly. He truly love and treasured each member of his family dearly. While gone, his goodwill, laughter, and spirit will live on through every life he has touched.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby Kennedy Medlin (Neil); children, Rachel Childress Burns (Darin) of Sanford, Wendi Childress Mundy (Jimmy) of Virginia, Michael Bryan Childress of Sanford, Jason Lee Childress of Cameron; sister, Deborah Small (Bob) of Ohio; brothers, Mark Childress (Barbara) of Southern Pines and Jerry Childress (Linda) of Moncure; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Dempsey Childress.
