Roy B. Longhta Jr was born February 24, 1932 in Springfield, Illinois to the parents of Roy and Hazel Longhta. He had an older sister, Norma, and a younger brother, Gordon. He attended Douglas Elementary school in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1950. In 1953 He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Finance and was drafted in to the Army for two years and served in France. He worked for Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company for 36 years, serving as General Manager in Springfield, Illinois, Rochester, NY and Cleveland, Ohio. He retired as Vice President of Marketing, Property and Casualty Division, in Aetna’s Corporate headquarters, Hartford, Conn.
In 1956 he married Tove Olsen from Copenhagen, Denmark. They had three children, eight grandchildren. His wife, Tove passed in 2015, after almost 60 years of marriage.
In 1996 he and Tove moved from Hartford, Connecticut to Pinehurst, NC. He and his wife were active in Newcomers, Pinehurst Country Club and The Village Chapel in the Village of Pinehurst where he served on the Finance committee, Chaired a Long Range Planning committee, served on the Board of Trustees, two terms as Chairman. He also chaired the Membership Committee, the Stewardship Committee and was head of the Shepherds and leader of the Lay Readers. He also headed the Home Communion Ministry.
Roy is survived by three children and their spouses, Lisa and Don Fields, of Akron, Ohio. Sonja and Bruce Boettcher, of St. Petersburg, Florida. Tom and Janelle Longhta, of St. Petersburg, Florida, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 10th 2024, 11:00 AM, at The Village Chapel, 10 Azalea Road, Pinehurst, North Carolina.
