Stanley Buie, a kind and quick-witted soul, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on September 19, 2025, at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst. Surrounded by his family, he returned home to the Lord.
Born on June 5, 1940, in Vass, North Carolina, Stanley was a son of the late Murphy and Georgia Buie. After graduating from Vass-Lakeview High School, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Navy. Upon his return, he began a long and dedicated career with Seaboard Coastline/CSX Railroad, retiring after 42 years.
Stanley’s world revolved around his family. A devoted husband to his wife, Kathy, for 60 years, he was also a loving father and the proudest of grandfathers to his six grandchildren. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life-the feel of the soil in his hands while tending his tomato plants, the sight of a bird at his feeder, and the quiet moments he spent reading. He had a great love for history and, of course, baseball.
Known for his unconditional love, his wisdom, and his ability to make everyone laugh, Stanley leaves behind a legacy of funny stories and cherished memories. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William “Tooty” Buie, as well as many other dear family members and friends.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Kathy Kiser Buie; his children, Anita Mashburn (Robert), Dale Buie (Kathryn), and Kevin Buie; his brother, Jerry Buie; and his grandchildren, Taylor Mashburn, Rachael Mashburn, Ella Gilliam, Murphy Buie, Ginny Buie, and Jackson Buie.
A celebration of life will be held at Yates Thagard Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Pastors Steve Johnson and Sammy Frye will officiate. Following the service, burial with military honors will take place in the church cemetery. The family will welcome friends for visitation at 10:00 AM at the church and at the family home at other times.
