A juvenile has reportedly been arrested in connection with a Saturday night shooting that left a 20-year-old man injured in Southern Pines.
According to the Southern Pines Police Department, officers responded on March 14 to the Brookside Park Apartment complex following a report of a person being shot. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to his right shoulder.
Emergency crews transported the victim to a helicopter landing zone established at a nearby ballfield along Morganton Road, where he was airlifted to a tertiary care center for treatment.
Reporters with Sandhills Sentinel observed a heavy law enforcement presence at Memorial Ballfield, where the landing zone was secured by officers. The area around the helicopter was temporarily locked down while the victim was transported.
Investigators recovered several spent shell casings and a spent projectile from the scene as evidence. Police said the investigation led officers to identify a suspect, who was located inside an apartment and taken into custody.
The suspect, a juvenile whose name was not released because of their age, was arrested without incident and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Authorities obtained a secure custody order, and the juvenile was transported to a juvenile detention facility, where they are being held.
Police said there is no known ongoing threat related to the incident.
The arrest comes weeks after another shooting investigation in Southern Pines. In February, another juvenile was arrested in connection with a shooting at Mid South Club.
