The Southern Pines Police Department is investigating after two people sustained gunshot wounds at Brookside Park Apartments in Southern Pines on Thursday. The incident unfolded in the 900 block of Richards Street around 12:15 p.m.
According to radio traffic, a 16-year-old male was shot in the foot, and an 18-year-old male was shot in the knee. The injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. The patients were transported by ambulance to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
About an hour and a half after the incident, the Southern Pines Police Department issued a press release.
“Investigators remain on scene actively processing and collecting evidence,” said the release in part. “At this time, there is no known ongoing threat to the community related to this incident.”
The release thanked Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the investigation.
