A 7-foot boa constrictor that had been missing for nearly a month has been found and is on its way home.
The Hoke County Animal Shelter first alerted residents to the missing snake on Oct. 5. In a social media post, the shelter asked anyone in the Calloway Road and Sumner Lane area, near Carolina Horse Park, who spotted a 6- to 7-foot boa constrictor to contact Animal Control.
When concerned citizens took to social media in assorted states of hiss-teria following the announcement, the shelter clarified that the snake was a missing pet and urged residents to keep their distance if they encountered it. They also advised keeping children and pets away from the area and not attempting to capture or contain the animal.
However, boas are non-venomous, and the shelter reported that the owner described the snake as “docile.”
On Nov. 4, almost a full month later, the shelter announced that the snake had been located and safely secured.
In a Facebook update, the shelter thanked “Mountain Matt” for picking up the boa and homeowner Mr. Wood, who discovered the snake on his property.
“We are happy to report that this slithery escape artist is safely secured and officially on its way home!” the shelter wrote. “This is what community teamwork is all about!”
Luckily, the boa’s days of slithering around neighboring Hoke County are over, and the shelter’s update brought a happy ending to the search.
